On Saturday 28 March, Bridge Books will be hosting contributors of the collection Loud Explosions, Silenced Cries: Reflections on the War in Gaza.
The book brings together poets and essayists from across South Africa to write about the war in Gaza. These are the voices of our scholars, activists, students, and writers who draw the parallels between South Africa’s past and the current plight of the Palestinian people. In conversation, we’ll have Deirdre C. Byrne, director of ZAPP (South African Poetry Project), Mokesh Kantilal Morar, the national organiser for Young Christian Students, Salim Vally, the director of the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation, and Jennifer Roberts, an education specialist with expertise in forced displacement.
In this book you’ll find a mix of personal stories, historical insights, reflections on religion, and confrontations with the truths of a genocide. Each piece in the collection stands as a reminder of the enduring spirit of resistance and the importance of global solidarity. They are invitations to engage with moral questions of conflict, cultivate empathy, and challenge our perspectives.
